design & data

the design task was to incorporate a modern 2 storey addition to the rear of an historic limestone structure which blends and adds modern convenience to the home while pleasing the Heritage Committee of the City of Kingston.

very important was to make the most of the unique location by maximizing the views and the natural light afforded by the building orientation. Full glazing and 4 patio doors connect the inside and outside environment extending your living space.

attention was paid to detail with a feeling for texture, finish and colour

energy efficiency, sustainability and providing a healthy living environment were all decisive factors that were well considered and are exemplified by just these few examples:

…creating an efficient building envelope with high levels of thermal insulation

… maximizing passive solar energy gain whilst providing ample natural ventilation

…installing a high efficiency air heat pump for an economical use of energy and
convenience which provides heat, air-conditioning and dehumidification

…choosing a high quality all wood siding for the new addition with 50 year warranty

…sourcing the seagrass all natural fibre flooring for the new second floor sun lounge.
this not only enhances acoustic performance and adds an appropriate maritime feeling
but also regulates the room climate.

The generous layout allows for flexible living and furnishing, so that you can define
the spaces according to your personal desire and usage. Most bedrooms can be used
alternatively as living or study spaces.

We hope you can enjoy and appreciate what we have done.
